On a clear and eerie Halloween eve I got the chance to sample one of the newest shows on the strip. No it’s not a new Cirque show, or some douchy magician, we’re talking the in your face, loud and splashtastic Evil Dead the Musical. Looking back now, sample is a terrible word, I should have used full course.
The title says it all, it’s Evil Dead, in musical form. Imagine all of the Evil Dead movies smashed into one gruesome and bloody ball of love. Enjoy Ash and his friends experience that horrific night at the cabin in a whimsical manor like you’ve never seen before. I don’t know if I’ve ever put whimsical in a sentence with Evil Dead before, but that’s what makes Evil Dead the Musical, well, Evil Dead the Musical.
The key to Evil Dead the Musical is ridiculousness, and a lot of it. And it was refreshing to see the cast completely embrace it. How else would they be able to belt out musical numbers about death and dismemberment while blood is pouring over the audience in front of them. The smiles and laughter from the cast themselves also shows just how much fun the show is. There’s plenty of interaction with the audience who’ve probably never seen anything like this before.
The whole show is about having fun and being completely ridiculous, and it truly is an experience.
