This summer, Disney unveils new movie-inspired attractions in its Florida theme parks. Which fans will obsess more?
The idea of Stormtroopers patrolling Florida, or travelers swapping trinkets with a Jawa—that’s typically the stuff of Star Wars fan fever dreams, but as of this year, it’s a reality at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando.
Chewbacca and Kylo Ren stop for photo opps in the new walk-through attraction Launch Bay, where you should hope Ren doesn’t sense any sympathies to the Rebel Alliance. Kids can enroll in the Jedi Training Academy for the chance to test their sensitivity to the Force in a lightsaber battle with Darth Vader, and Star Wars characters recreate moments from the films in the live show “Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away.” In June, the Force will take to the sky with “Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular,” a nightly show that will incorporate film footage with fireworks, lasers, and pyrotechnics set to the original score by the series’ composer, John Williams.
An opening date has not been announced for the fully immersive lands at both Disney World and Disneyland, but when complete, fans on both coasts will be able to pilot the Millennium Falcon in a new flight simulator attraction and have a cocktail at Mos Eisley Cantina. (You’ll need it….after piloting the Millennium Falcon.)
